AOD-9604
A gentle fat-loss shot for the last stubborn pounds. Subtle, no blood sugar hit, and famously annoying to mix.
What it is
AOD-9604 is the fat-handling tail of growth hormone, used to nudge fat burning when you are already fairly lean and the last stretch has stalled. It will not raise blood sugar or IGF-1 the way growth hormone does, and it will not do much if you still have a lot to lose.
The person who gets something out of this is already dieting, already training, and stuck on the last five to ten pounds that will not move. Think of it like nitrous in a race car: you do not hit it at 80 mph to reach 100, you hit it at 150 to reach 180. Someone with 40 pounds to lose should put the money into tirzepatide or semaglutide instead, where the effect is large and proven. AOD-9604 is a finishing tool, not a starting one.
Expect subtle. Nobody feels AOD-9604 working, and there is no appetite effect, no energy kick, no water drop. What people who respond report is that a plateau breaks over weeks three to six and the scale and the mirror start moving again at the same deficit. If you are not lean enough to see definition change, you will not be able to tell it apart from your diet. Give it a full 12 weeks before you judge it. People run it through a fat-loss phase and stop at the goal; it is not known to wear off, so a break afterward is optional.
It is a small subQ shot (just under the skin with an insulin needle), 250 mcg to start and 500 mcg as the real dose, taken fasted, usually right before bed or first thing in the morning. The aggressive tier is 500 mcg morning and night. The mistake that wastes the most money here is the mixing, not the dose: AOD-9604 gels and goes cloudy more than any other peptide on this site. Buy 2 mg or 5 mg vials, never 10 mg, fill the vial with the maximum water (about 3 ml), use pharmaceutical-grade water, and swirl, never shake. A 5 mg vial is ten days at 500 mcg, so a 12 week run is eight or nine vials; losing one to gelling hurts.
The evidence read is honest and a little deflating. Animal work is solid: the fragment burns fat in obese mice without raising blood sugar. The company that developed it ran human trials in the 2000s with an oral tablet; an early study showed a small loss against placebo, the larger follow-ups did not, and the program was shelved. Nobody has run a proper trial of the injected form people actually use. What those trials did show clearly is safety: no change in glucose, no IGF-1 rise, very few side effects. So: gentle and safe, modest at best.
Skip it if you are not already lean, if you want something you can feel, or if you hate fiddly reconstitution. For general fat loss with real evidence, go to the GLP-1s. For a metabolic nudge that is easier to handle, 5-Amino-1MQ comes as a capsule and MOTS-c is dosed a few times a week. For a stubborn-belly-fat problem, tesamorelin has far better human data, with more cautions.
What people use it for
Stubborn fat
Some evidenceObese mice lost fat on the fragment without the growth or blood sugar effects of whole growth hormone. Human trials of an oral form in the 2000s were mixed: an early study found a small loss over placebo, the larger ones did not. For you that means a modest effect, visible mainly when you are already lean.
Blood sugar and growth effects
Some evidenceThe clearest human finding is what it does not do. In the trials it did not raise blood sugar, insulin, or IGF-1, which is the whole point of using a fragment instead of growth hormone. This is why it is considered the gentle option in the fat-loss group.
Joints and cartilage
Early daysA few animal studies injected it into arthritic joints, sometimes with hyaluronic acid, and saw less cartilage damage. Interesting, but nobody runs it this way at home and there is no human data. Treat it as a footnote, not a reason to buy.
How it works
- A fat-loss peptide built from a fragment of growth hormone
- Designed to target fat without growth hormone's blood-sugar effects
- Human results have been modest and mixed
- Generally well tolerated, but not a proven fat-loss cure
How people use it
Safety, in brief
Things people sometimes notice
- A small red bump or itch where you inject, gone in a day
- A mild headache in the first week for some people
- Occasional queasiness if you inject fasted and then eat a big meal
- Cloudy or gelled liquid in the vial, which is a mixing problem, not a side effect
