Staying safe
Things people sometimes notice
- Nausea and a hot flush for 20 to 60 minutes after a dose, worse at higher doses and on a full stomach; most people adapt after a few shots
- A general darkening of skin from Melanotan II, including freckles, moles, and sometimes gums or lips
- Less appetite for a day after a Melanotan II shot
- Spontaneous erections in men in the hours after either peptide, especially early on
- Tiredness or yawning for a few hours after PT-141
Stop and get help if (trouble breathing or swelling: call 911)
- An erection lasting more than four hours; that is an emergency room visit, not a wait-and-see
- A mole that changes shape, grows, bleeds, or looks different from the others; get it looked at and stop Melanotan II
- Blood pressure that stays up the next day, chest pain, or a pounding headache after a dose
- Vomiting you cannot keep ahead of, or fainting
- Hives, swelling of the face or lips, or trouble breathing
Talk to your doctor first, especially if
- You have high blood pressure, heart disease, or take blood pressure medicine; both peptides raise pressure for hours after each dose
- You have many moles, atypical moles, or a personal or family history of melanoma; skip Melanotan II and get a skin check before PT-141, which can also darken skin with repeated use
- You take a nitrate, an alpha blocker, or a PDE5 drug; the blood pressure effects stack and the erection risk compounds
- You take naltrexone, an opioid, or an oral medicine with a narrow window; bremelanotide slows stomach emptying and lowers absorption of some drugs
- You are pregnant, nursing, or trying to conceive; melanocortin agonists are not studied in pregnancy
Mixing it
Two separate vials, mixed and dosed separately. Here is the math for a 10 mg vial of either one mixed with 3 ml of bacteriostatic water.
Mix each 10 mg vial on its own; do not combine them in one vial.
Bring the vial to room temperature and clean the top.
Add 3 ml of bacteriostatic water slowly down the side.
Swirl gently, do not shake.
Store both in the fridge. Use within about 3 to 4 weeks once mixed.
