Staying safe
Things people sometimes notice
- A small sore spot or redness where you inject
- Looser or firmer stools in the first week as the gut settles, which usually passes
- Mild tiredness for the first few days in some people
Stop and get help if (trouble breathing or swelling: call 911)
- Rash, hives, swelling or trouble breathing
- Gut symptoms that get worse rather than better over two weeks, which means something other than inflammation is going on
- Blood in the stool, fever or severe cramping; those are not KPV side effects, they are reasons to see a doctor regardless
Talk to your doctor first, especially if
- You have diagnosed IBD (Crohn's or ulcerative colitis) and take immune-suppressing drugs or a biologic, because your gastroenterologist manages those on how your gut looks and an added anti-inflammatory changes that picture
- You are being worked up for a gut problem that has not been diagnosed yet; calming it before the scope can hide what they are looking for
- You are pregnant or nursing; there is no safety data
Mixing it
Here is the math for a 10 mg vial mixed with 1 ml of bacteriostatic water, taking a 250 mcg dose.
Bring the vial to room temperature and clean the top.
Add 1 ml of bacteriostatic water slowly.
Swirl gently until dissolved.
Inject subcutaneously (subQ) once a day.
Store in the fridge. Use within about 3 to 4 weeks once mixed.
