Staying safe
Things people sometimes notice
- Redness or a small itchy bump where you inject
- A mild flu-like feeling, achiness or a low-grade warmth in the first two or three days as immune activity rises; it passes
- Slightly disturbed sleep in the first week for some
Stop and get help if (trouble breathing or swelling: call 911)
- Rash, hives, swelling or trouble breathing
- A flare of an autoimmune condition: new joint pain, a skin flare, or a known condition getting worse
- Fever above 38.5 C or feeling genuinely ill rather than mildly off; that is an infection to treat, not a side effect to ride out
Talk to your doctor first, especially if
- You have an autoimmune disease (Hashimoto's, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, MS, Crohn's), because an immune modulator can calm or flare it and the specialist who manages you should know
- You take immune-suppressing drugs or a biologic, or you have had an organ transplant, since the two pull in opposite directions
- You have chronic hepatitis or HIV, where it is an actual treatment with specific dosing that belongs with your specialist
Mixing it
Here is the math for a 10 mg vial mixed with 1 ml of bacteriostatic water, taking a 0.5 mg dose.
Bring the vial to room temperature and clean the top.
Add 1 ml of bacteriostatic water slowly.
Swirl gently, do not shake.
Inject subcutaneously (subQ) on your schedule.
Store in the fridge. Use within about 3 to 4 weeks once mixed.
