HMG dosage and reconstitution
The FSH shot that restarts sperm production when hCG alone cannot. Prescription fertility medicine, three shots a week for months.
Staying safe
Things people sometimes notice
- Soreness, redness or a bruise at the injection site
- Headache and tiredness in the first weeks
- Mood swings or irritability as hormones shift
- Breast tenderness, usually from the hCG half pushing estrogen up
Stop and get help if (trouble breathing or swelling: call 911)
- A firm lump or growing breast tissue (gynecomastia), which needs the estrogen side managed
- Sudden pain or swelling in a testicle
- Signs of an allergic reaction, including hives or trouble breathing
Talk to your doctor first, especially if
- You have no recent semen analysis; the whole plan is steered by that result and monthly hormone labs
- You have a pituitary tumor, an untreated thyroid or adrenal problem, or prostate cancer; these change whether HMG is appropriate at all
- You take an aromatase inhibitor or SERM (anastrozole, clomiphene, tamoxifen), because the combination is common but needs estradiol monitored
- Your partner is in fertility treatment, so timing can be coordinated with her clinic
Mixing it
Here is the math for a 75 IU vial mixed with 1 ml of bacteriostatic water, so one vial is one dose.
Let the vial reach room temperature and wipe both vial tops with an alcohol swab.
Draw 1 ml of bacteriostatic water into the syringe.
Push the water in slowly against the side of the glass, not onto the powder.
Swirl gently until dissolved, do not shake.
For 150 IU, mix two vials the same way and give two 1 ml shots.
Store it in the fridge. Once mixed it stays good for about 3 to 4 weeks.
